My favourite authors...

Hey everyone and Happy New Year.  I can’t believe 2011 is here already.  I thought I’d kick off the year by sharing my favourite authors (many of whom I discovered last year) and some anecdotes about why I love them.

Cassandra Clare - for her ability to create a world so vast and imaginative

Suzanne Collins – for her imagination, for Peeta and for her talent in creating the scariest and most intriguing world in YA fiction; not to mention the coolest and savviest heroine ever to grace YA fiction.

Maggie Stiefvater – for creating the truest world of romance I’ve ever read about and for making a true love seem so rare and so real – it’s heartbreaking.  For Sam and Grace, and for the way Maggie’s lyrical style of prose makes them seem so real.

Lauren Kate – for making me fall in love with fallen angels.

Becca Fitzpatrick – for the angels, again, and for Patch – one of the best bad boys I’ve ever read about.

Alyson Noel – for making me believe that true love transcends everything – and for creating a character like Damen.

Carrie Jones – for creating a world of pixies that are a little more complex than your average garden variety.

Lucy Christopher – for writing one of the best books I have ever read and creating a scene so real and so captivating.

Jennifer Echols – for writing about love in a true and honest way and making her characters the kind you want to fight for.

Jenny Downham – for writing two of the most stunning, ground breaking and heartbreaking YA novels I’ve ever read – and two of the best.
